A satisfied client :
Though I wrote my novel alone, Barbara’s excellent editing assistance made it ready to send out. Her spelling and punctuation corrections, her suggestions regarding word usage and sentence construction and her other general input proved invaluable. She was always available to me and I am confident that I chose the right editor. She became my muse. I look forward with anticipation to working with her on my next manuscript. --Robert J. Emery, author, |

Written by two professional editors, this book is a very useful guide to revising your own manuscript before submitting it to a literary agent or publisher. Even if you plan to have your manuscript professionally edited (which you should), you can save yourself a lot of expense by perfecting as much as you can on your own. It explains the fundamentals to producing a well-structured and well-paced narrative. Characterization, point of view, dialogue, voice, and pacing are all discussed, as well as other elements and techniques.
Two nice features of this book are the examples provided from the works of established writers, and the exercises at the end of each section.
I own a copy of this book and I find it to be a valuable resource. I highly recommend it to both new and experienced writers.
Literary agents and publishing houses reject hundreds of manuscripts every month. This book gives concise and forceful tips on how to avoid many common writing errors in order to lesson your chances of rejection. It doesn’t matter if you have developed a great plot. A weak opening hook, uneven pacing, or ineffective dialogue will cause your manuscript to be pegged as unworthy. Written by a literary agent, this book discusses how to master the essential elements of a good piece of writing.
